Global Competitions

Riot Games holds three annual League of Legends Esports international competitions: Mid-Season Invitational, World Championship, and All-Star Event. Contested by professional players and teams from the 12 regional leagues around the world, these international tournaments are considered the pinnacle of League of Legends Esports.
The Mid-Season Invitational takes place in the spring, followed by World Championship in the fall and All-Stars in the winter.
World Championship
The World Championship is the most prestigious LoL Esports tournament in the world. It marks the conclusion of the regular League of Legends competitive season and is contested by teams from the 12 regional leagues. More >
Mid-Season Invitational
The Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) is held between the first and second splits of the regular League of Legends competitive season, with the leading teams from each regional league competing for the title. More >

Riot Games oversees the full vertical of sports operations, broadcasting, and commercialization for League of Legends Esports. Serving at the helm as Head of Esports for Riot Games is John Needham. 
John Needham currently serves as the Global Head of League of Legends Esports at Riot Games. Needham joined Riot in 2017 as the managing director of Europe and North America. During his time in that position, he oversaw the rebranding of the League of Legends European Championship (LEC), which included the move to a long-term partnership model with 10 teams and an influx of new partnerships including Kia, Logitech, Red Bull, and Foot Locker. Prior to Riot, John previously held leadership positions at Microsoft, Cryptic Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Telemundo, and Sony Online Entertainment.
Scott Adametz is the Lead Engineering Manager for Esports at Riot Games and is responsible for driving the innovative tech that powers the award-winning League of Legends Esports broadcasts. Scott is tasked with finding unique solutions that enable cost-effective, high-quality production of content and live events as well as developing ways to integrate cutting-edge technology to elevate the fan experience. Scott started his career as a Systems Engineer at the Big Ten Network and later held senior technology positions at NFL Media and PAC-12 Network prior to joining Riot.
Naz Aletaha serves as the Head of Global Esports Partnerships & Business Development at Riot Games where she has spearheaded groundbreaking partnerships for League of Legends Esports including Mastercard, Louis Vuitton, and State Farm. Since joining Riot in 2012, Naz has catalyzed the evolution of esports from a niche competition into the fastest growing global sport, drawing interest and investment from traditional sports and entertainment industries as well as those closely aligned with esports. 
Andrew Conti oversees all marketing and communications for the most watched esport, League of Legends, as the Marketing Director for Esports at Riot Games. Andrew has a demonstrated history of driving innovation by creating high-performing integrated marketing teams and developing category-leading brands. Andrew holds his Executive MBA from UCLA.
Leo Faria oversees product and delivery for Global League of Legends Esports at Riot Games as the Product Lead. Leo served as the Head of Publishing for Riot Games in Brazil, leading the strategy and day-to-day tactics for League of Legends, while also laying the groundwork for Riot's multi-games future and the launch of new business lines such as comics, merchandising and films & TV. Before joining Riot, Leo worked for over a decade in technology and co-founded a data analytics startup that was acquired by Latin America's largest technology conglomerate.
David Higdon serves as the Global Head of Communications for Esports at Riot Games. He is responsible for the development of communication strategy and initiatives for League of Legends Esports across the sport’s 13 regional leagues and three major global tournaments. David brings a wealth of sports experience with him, having helped build an award-winning in-house agency team at NASCAR as the VP of Integrated Marketing Communications and holding leadership roles at the LPGA, Champ Car World Series, and the Association of Tennis Professions (ATP) prior to joining Riot in 2018.
Tom Martell serves as the Global Esports Operations Lead for Riot Games where he manages a number of teams to provide infrastructure and strategic support for the global League of Legends ecosystem. Tom brings an eclectic mix of experience to Riot, previously working as the General Counsel for the fintech company Addepar and as VP of Research and Trading at the global macro hedge fund Clarium Capital. Tom also has a deep understanding of esports as a former top ranked Magic: The Gathering pro. Tom earned a J.D. from Columbia Law School and a B.A. in political science and B.S. in computer science from Stanford University.
Doug Watson is the head of Esports Insights for Riot Games and is responsible for expressing the voice of the player through data, providing expertise in media measurement, and assisting in the product and strategy development of esports. As leaders in the esports space, Doug and his team work across the industry to create a healthy and sustainable ecosystem for esports and have been the driving force behind standardizing industry metrics, competitive integrity measures, and development of the competitive play data ecosystem. Previously, Doug served as the VP of Data Solutions at Havas Media where he developed analytic and data capabilities for a range of clients including Fidelity, Hyundai Kia, Air France, and more.


Riot Games is pioneering sponsorship and partnerships for esports, establishing first-of-its-kind, long-term partners for League of Legends Esports. With a globally integrated ecosystem that connects 13 leagues from around the world through a year-round season with major international events, League of Legends Esports provides meaningful integration and collaboration opportunities for brands. League of Legends Esports’ global partners include: Mastercard, Louis Vuitton, OPPO, Secretlab, and Red Bull.
Regional partners include: Nike, State Farm, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Puma, Mountain Dew, China Merchants Bank, Intel, SK Telecom, Kia, and more.
